In layman's terms: Don't post anything illegal here.

With that said, I must admit that there is little to no illegalities that I
can see going on at Retromac. They ban Microsoft and other "major apps"
from being uploaded, and they are focused on offering "abandonware" which is
a different category than "pirated" software. I know some of you may have
strong opinions on such, but this is indeed a legal gray area in the United
States. And for those of us outside the US, it's more of a "light gray."

Fact is that I would be willing to pay a little for older software that I
cannot find anymore. How about SmoothTalker from First Byte? Can't find
that anywhere for any price. Not even on RetroMac. I would pay $15 or so
to "bring back the memories." But that software is dead in the water. Many
of the companies that came out with this apps are dead and gone, and often
times, the abandonware falls into the public domain. And sadly, many of the
apps I paid good money for years ago I either lost or the floppies died.
What to do in that case? Shall I be jailed for restoring my old apps at
Retromac?

So let's "keep it legal" to be sure, but let's also lighten up a bit and
realize that abandonware is not the same as pirated software. Find out if
some company still supports or owns rights to the software you want and
contact them. If there is no one left to contact, it's likely
"abandonware."

J. Wages
