I've run OS 7.6.1 on a Classic II but I prefer OS 6.0.8L. I tried 7.6.1 
because I was using a dial-up connection at the time and my ISP needed 
open transport. But since I'm now cable, and have a home network, I can 
just use MacTCP.

You can't really web-surf with the Classic II, but you can read email 
(even with OS 6), so long as you use a SCSI to ethernet adapter or some 
localtalk connection.
