If the data files you wish to recover are text files, any old version of WORD should work or at least recover some if not all of the text portions if they are not text files. You have to select the "Open Any File" option in the file menu. If that option is not there, then go to the "Edit" menu and select "Preferences." I presume that you will know what to do to make the "Open Any File" option part of the file menu.
