Ok, closest thing I have is a Plus with a Rodime 20+ running 6.0.4. I
dont suggest this is a good comparision.
I see your point regarding initalization.
This machine has Norton 1.1 installed. Using the Undelete option I can
get 20 seconds worth of read activity on a standard 3.5 cleaning floppy
by choosing a different disk to the boot disk, I imagine this is hard
without a second drive of some sort. Very little write activity before
the disk is spat out.
I suggest you try 3rd party formatting or disk image software to get the
disk activity you require. Martens sys6 heaven may help

I will have a look without the Rodime over the weekend, depending on the
software there should be way round this. A manual repair may well be
easier in the long run.
