That's just ugly. And doesn't scale. If you use vim (as I do) then just set 
the git global "core.excludesfile" to ~/.gitignore, and put ".vimrc" in that.

Unless you also want to put .exrc, .emacsrc, .nanorc, .jedrc, .katerc and a 
bajillion other editors into the .gitignore file of every project you ever 
work with, of course, to cater for every tool that anyone who works on your 
project wants to use.
