It should be: systemctl reboot --firmware Local options of a verb should only work locally and throw an error if used before the verb. It is not a problem of this patch, but systemctl should be fixed to work like that (like udevadm), and not mess all local things into global command line switching handling. The documentation is also confusing, where it describes in a global section the local verb-specific options.
