systemd *does not have* its own suspend mechanism, it uses only what the kernel itself provides.

thx, not sure about "if that doesn't work", it does "kinda". That puts it back to sleep. Still remains a totally black console. However, your "systemd *does not have*" statement leads me to believe that an issue of possible dependency probably exists, so back to the check boxes, build, test for several more
days.
