USATF rules say only that an athlete must compete at the national
championships. It can be in ANY event. Maurice's plan had *always* been
to run the 200 here at Stanford, and that alone would have been enough.
He had hoped to run just one round of the 100 for fun (something he did
in 2001 as well),.but his coach, John Smith, in the last two weeks
decided Mo should run only the 200. He's got more things to work on in
the 200, and John wanted him to concentrate on that.

It's completely on the up-and-up, and is not a problem.

It is very similar to what Marion Jones did in 2001. An automatic
qualifier in the 100, she ran only the 200 at the U.S. championships.
