OK, two questions here:

1. Didn't he become a South African citizen several/many years ago?

2. Why is he throwing so poorly, even considering age and new implement?

First competition since the 2000 Oly Trials. Sort of pressed into action with 2 no-shows for the event.
Maybe he'll be inspired to qualify for the 2004 Oly trials at 46. I don't know whether that will be a tribute to the fitness of an older guy, or a sign that we need development work in the event .
