The phototimer apaprently malfunctioned, hence the hand times. Or they're systematically throwing out the fastest 100m ever: Chambers was recorded in 9.53s, and Collins second in 9.56.
Apparently, after Bernard Williams false-started once, Chambers also complained that music was coming from his starting blocks... --JRM
