Last weekend, if you recall, the Saturday session of the OTs was set for the ungodly hour of 10 a.m. in Sacramento to fit into NBC's TV schedule, which had the mid-afternoon committed to the women's gold tournament.

Yes, and NBC's time schedule demands forced a 1:40:00 finishing time for the 20k walkers. We were told at the line that morning that if we were not under the time we would have to finish on the road. They were damn lucky it wasn't any hotter. In 98 in New Orleans Every finisher was over the qualifying time and several of us could have finished over 1:40 this time. Only one Man did not make it in and missed by 1:17. I guess the heats of the women's hurdles were more important then showing the winner of the walk where he set a trials record. And far more important then letting a young man, in his first trials, finish in the stadium. Thank you NBC.

On top of that, though I swore I wouldn't collapse, I did. I was just too tired to stand. (In fact I wasn't sure I could finish.) The med people ran out to get me and after a minute I was up with help. That is when an NBC guy came over and told the med people they couldn't run infront of the camera to get athletes. I was pretty alert at the time and my response was classic Mike Rohl: "@#$% you! I'll take you and your bleeping camera down and you will let the med people help." At that point I was wobbling again and the med people were dragging me away. The guy was visibly angry. And to bad.

Good Training,
  Michael Rohl
