It was so unrealistic that I wondered if they were showing a clip from a movie the first time I saw it. >> The problem here is that young children have a hard time differentiating between reality and fiction. Additionally, children don't have the ability to judge the realness of the ad. They still believe in monsters, so why wouldn't they believe in a chain saw wielding murderer? And, although I don't think that this is a real depiction of how a chain saw murder might take place, there are women (an men) whose bodies have been cut into pieces by chainsaws (and wood chippers!) Just catch a few of the forensic and medical detective shows on the Discovery Channel. My problem with the ad is that it was aired during a family hour in which they knew that young children (especially girls) would be watching. My daughter is still afraid to watch Aladdin. She also likes a grown-up present when she watchs some Scooby-doo reruns--and these are cartoons. Personally, I don't care whether they air the ad at 11:00 at night. I thought it was amusing and showed a strong female protagonist. But it is absolutely inappropriate to run during the Olympics. KR
