I'm torn...I want to rip Grote for all his griping, but all I have time for
right now is to post the upcoming TV schedule
(I was depressed before Grote's post. After a full week of beautiful weather,
it's now raining and 20-degrees cooler in Eugene as we get ready for
tonight's events. Doesn't look much better for tomorrow. Might be better for
the distance races, but the sprinters can't be too happy):
SUNDAY-June 3
GST Open/Princeton Inv.--ESPN 4:30-6pm(EDT). I know this seems like old
news, but you might want to tape this show and keerp it in your files. In
addition to the Princeton results, there are highlights from Modesto,
including a historical package, and a look back at the Penn Relays, with
Michael, Maurice and Marion. (For you pole vault fans, lots of LoJo from
Princeton and Suttle from Modesto).
SUNDAY-June 10 (3 meets in one day!)
adidas Oregon Track Classic--ESPN 12:30am-2am(EDT) (I believe this might be
shown from 9:30pm-11pm on Saturday night on the West Coast)
NCAA Championships--CBS 2-4pm(EDT)
U.S.Open(Stanford)--CBS 5-6pm(EDT).
In addition to major coverage of the World Championships on ABC/ESPN and the
Goodwill Games on TNT, ESPN will show 7 Golden League meets (possibly
same-day coverage) and the Grand Prix Final.
As for Pre, I agree that this year's meet (or any other edition for that
matter), deserved "network" coverage, but you have to remember that when CBS
had the show, the meet sometimes started at 9am in Eugene to fit a noon to 1
or 2pm East Coast live "window", something the athletes were never too happy
with. The moral being, you can't always get what you want.
