I'm wondering if the British genes are just not as good currently as they were in the Coe/Ovett era. Let's face it - if the British had produced another generation of Coe's and Ovett's including a natural progression of improvement they would be running right with the best the world has to offer right now. The British just went backwards like most countries that formerly were powers at the middle distances 20 years ago. Or is there some sort of East African/North African or whatever argument can be crowbarred into a set of statistics which clues us in that Coe and Ovett have genes originating in some other world?
