Netters:

I would hope that Footlocker officials provide an extra spot in the
finals, with travel expenses, for Katie Albright, the frosh who was
"discouraged" from running in the championships race inthe South

At VCP, athletes simply picked the race they wanted to run. There
were some in the class races who might have plkaced well in the tiutle race,
but they made their choice on their own for various reasons.

Vanessa Wright of Haddonfield, who won the girls' frosh race,
had had a bad race a week earlier at our AG meet (after winning the Gr.II
title the week before) and needed a confidence builder according to coach
Nick Baker.

Joe Kingsbery of Red Bank, who ran 4th in the junior race, was
coming off the soccer field ---like his older brother Walton did several
years ago (and won)--and like Amanda Trotter did last year when she took the
junior girls event. Hopefully, he will give up booting next fall---had he
been running regularly this season, Red Bank might have been No. 2 in the
Gr. III race behind AG champ Mainland.

As far as the uniform controversy is concerned, I hope the
Massachusetts authorities do try to take action against Powell or her
school; if they do, they are in for a rude awakening.
