As one of the token Canucks on the list it would be remiss of me if I didn't point
out that Graham Hood paced him. A report is below that was posted to to TC. He
corrects the number of seconds to 5 in a later message.

Martin

Hi ALL hot off the press
----------------------
Birmingham England .. In a display of fantastic paced running Haile Gebrselassie of
Ethiopia set a new World Record for 2 Miles [3200m+] . The little
Ethiopian record breaker in what is described as his favourite indoor stadium
produced a magnificent display in running 8:04.69 to take close 4
seconds off his own record..
This achievement was made possible by the outstanding pacesetting by Graham Hood of
Canada, who reeled off the 200m splits 'spot' on in a
manner which augured well for a 'crack at the record.
With 1600m being reached in 4:01.42, at which point the Canadian stepped off the
track, we knew we were witnessing something spectacular.
However, there may have been doubt whether Haile Gebrselassie was in peak condition
to achieve this.
>From 2000m, this magnificent running machine was on his own and he continued to
click the 200m laps off in a shade over 30 seconds passing
through 2400m in 6:01.86 and 3000m in 7:32.81.
With this record Haile Gebrselassie has signalled that he is without doubt serious
about this years 10 000m World Championships.
