Netters: I have always felt that one of the nicer things in this sport is to get a sudden but of surprising and good news from an athlete you have followed in earlier life.
Two such marks came out of my persual of the National results this past weekend, both involving 4th-place finishes. One was the 7:55.92 3K effort by Eric Savoth of the Nike Farm Team, a former Christian Brothers and Georetown runner. I knew Eric, a onetime IC4A champ, was continuing his career under Gag's direction and had had several good races last year at the mile distancem but thia one really came out of the blue. Even more surprising was Kris Ferrara's 4th place in the women's 800M at 2:06.69 (just ahead of Hazel Clark). Kris is a former Vineland HS and Indiana runner and I hadn't heard anything or her for several years. Ed Grant
