According to the latest NCAA Indoor performance lists, all of the marks met at the Boston Indoor Games by NCAA athletes will not count for record or qualifying purposes. Since the meet was not an NCAA sanctioned event, none of the marks will count. However, the Division I NCAA Track and Field Committee has decided to accept qualifying marks made at the 2003 Pole Vault Summit. The committee also decided that qualifying efforts at future Pole Vault Summits and all single-event competitions will not be accepted (2003 NCAA Track and Field Rules Book Part III page 209-212).
The mark that will be erased is the 3000 meter indoor record set by Alistair Cragg of Arkansas. Other noteable performances that will now not count include Alice Schmidt's 800 meter time for North Carolina and teamamte Shalane Flanagan's time in the 3000 meters. The Tar Heels also feel the effect in the DMR, along with the men from Arkansas, Villanova and Michigan. Luke Watson's time in the 3000 meters for Notre Dame will not count as well. More information will be posted as soon as it comes in.
My question is, didn't these marks count last year and why would they accept the Pole Vault Summit marks and not the Boston Indoor Games? Is this a new rule this year? Very confusing to me considering they also didn't accept the Pole Vault Summit marks in the beginning, but then decided to let them in after many people protested -- perhaps the same can be done for the Boston Indoor Games.
