I am setting up VOIP (Packet8) service for my home phone. In the past,
I have had my home line, which is Bellsouth, forwarded to my T-Mobile
number after 4 rings. That has always worked well for me.

This VOIP (voice over IP) service, like others, also allows call
forwarding but it works a little differently. After you designate a
forwarding target, the number that you are forwarding to begins
ringing on the second ring so that at that point, both phones are
ringing - both home and the T-Mobile line. On the surface that sounds
good, to me anyway, but it can be a problem as I am finding out.

Because of voice mail on the T-Mobile line there is a problem when
that phone is turned off. When a call comes in on the home VOIP line,
the T-Mobile phone takes the call because it has been routed
immediately to T-Mobile voice mail. The home phone does not even ring.
This happens only when the phone is turned off. I am looking for a
solution.

Is there a way to control the number or rings or time before a call is
sent to voice mail on T-Mobile? I have looked through the GSM codes
and nothing stands out to me. As an alternative, is it possible to set
a phone or line where it does not forward to voice mail, where it
would continue ringing when the phone is turned off? I can leave the
T-Mobile phone on 24/7, but I would prefer not to have to do that.

Thanks for any ideas!

Bobby
