These anecdotal reports are generally useless except if you spend your
time in the exact location where these reports originate.  Different
carriers have different network footprints, so vary a lot from place
to place.  One place T-Mobile may get much better reception, and then
you travel 100 miles (or even 1 mile for that matter) and T-Mobile has
the worst reception.  As someone just pointed out, it has much more to
do with how close you are to a cell tower where your carrier is
transmitting from then the frequency they are using.  A little over a
year ago, my job got transferred to an army base and the reception in
my building ranged from none to a very unstable 1 bar.  In the summer,
they finally got a new cell tower built and all of a sudden I was
getting 4 bars.  Doesn't matter where I am in the building, it's
always 4 bars.  I can go anywhere on the base and the same thing holds...
