I can't say if this is absolutely so, so take this with a grain of salt. Regular SMS you should be able to send a "concatenated message" of over 400 characters (concatenation "joins" regular 160 character messages together. If your handset is capable of handling concatenated messages you will see one message though receiving or sending you will be billed for the number of messages the concatenated message takes. I also believe that this is for regular "SMS" messages and not for SMS email messages. If you send email with more than 140 or so characters for an SMS email it may be sent as a MMS.
