T-Mobile has had this promotion before so I don't doubt that it's real.

As for the "math" the original poster was most likely taking into  
account the original $10 credit plus the extra $25 airtime credit  
along with the $30 rebate.

I just went to the t-mobile.com prepaid phones page and there is  
indeed a promotion Nokia 6030 T-Mobile To Go  Suggested retail $79.99  
with $20.00 instant discount plus $30 MIR.   Final cost is $30.  You  
get $10 automatic credit for activating service and another $25  
credit voucher is included.  You actually end up with a $5 credit if  
you include the minute vouchers.

I've done this rebate before and it takes about six weeks to receive  
your rebate in the mail..  Be sure to do all that's required for the  
rebate.
