T-Mo now has the $10 data plan for all smart phones where you are limited to 200MB of data per month. So in case you can not cancel the data plan, you might want to sign up for the $10 plan and just make sure she doesn't go over 200MB a month (or tell her she doesn't have data so she won't use it).
