I agree completely. But until that major OS vendor gets the
message and understands it and changes their implementations we
must all continue to understand CHS translation and support CHS
and CHS translation. It is a sad state of affairs.
I am still waiting for any OS vendor to respond to the original
question: What do they prefer: Large or LBA translation or do
they care?
[And I wonder how prepared any of the OSs are for hard disk
devices that use more than 31-bit LBA values? Why 31 bits?
Because most software I have seen assumes that LBA values are
32-bit signed values.]
