What BIOS and platform exhibited the behavior? Also do you have an appx
build date for it?

I have not looked at a bus analyzer trace of a x86 BIOS in a long
time but I was recently sent one and good grief!!! can a BIOS be
worse that this???
This BIOS *never* reads the status before or after changing the DEV
bit. It *never* reads the status after issuing a Soft Reset or Device
Reset... It just delays about for some period of time (usually more
than 250ms) and goes on about it business.
I sure hope this is not typical of most BIOS code these days!
