I have looked at two types of round ATA cables:

Both used 80 conductors,
1) Curled cable over onto its self (rolled, then shrinked wrapped)
2) sliced the cable into individual wires and
        bound those together.

NEITHER use a twisted pair like what is used
in the SCSI LVD U160 cable... just straight wire (looks like they
started with a normal ATA 80 conductor cable)

Both cables created MUCH greater cross talk:
+ some what better than a 40 conductor cable, and
+ HIGH variance from cable to cable
Over a normal 80 conductor cable and thus I never took them
to the next level of running them on a TDR.

Another problem is a NUMBER of OSs/drivers assume that if a
a drive and a host can do Mode 5, that the "system"
can run mode 5.... This yet another case where
this would NOT be TRUE.
