The ATA/ATAPI 5 standard very clearly states that the CRC is ALWAYS send from
the host to the device at the end of all UDMA transfers (regardless of which
device is sending data).
The device is always responsible for comparing the CRC from the host with the
CRC internally generated in the device and setting the CRC error bit
accordingly. If you search a .PDF file of almost any version of ATA/ATAPI 5 (or
a newer document) you will find multiple references to this information. A few
locations are as follows: In ATA/ATAPI 5 section 6.6.1, 9.13.4.1, 9.13.4.2, and
9.15 (among others), this is clearly shown.
