I tested KVM with 2.6.19+patches. Performance increased noticeably (compared to unaccelerated qemu anyway). However I really was not near native speed as promissed. Note that real-mode is particularly slowly interpreted with KVM, thus the realmode BIOS and boot loader code runs that slow that you can watch the pixels appearing on the screen. However once the real OS enters protected mode it is blazingly fast. However I only tested 32bit clients on a T2/x86-64 (Intel Core 2 Duo - MacBook2). Despite lacking realmode performance I quite enjoy it of course as Qemu is my first choice tool for quality assurance testing as well as kernel, early-userspace and init development.
