It uses the C++ source located in source/UpdateList* to iterate over all the .desc files and check the upstream URL for matching updates. Due to the many different version encodings, PHP download scripts or forbidden directory listings the Update tracker can not, or not reliable locate all files possible. So we also lurk on freshmeat.net and co manually as well. If you notice update that you want in T2 either drop a note here or or provide a patch. Updates to the Update tracker are also of course welcome, we also probably should rewrite it in Lua as well.
