Hm. I never saw a /root/tmp so far. Somehow a temporary
file was created there and is cought by some T2 sanity checks
that should prevent a) messing up your host system and b) not
yielding unwanted top-level files in the resulting new system.

Did you manually configure this temporary path location somehow?
Which operating system are you using?
