Hi all,

when T2 went first public we where a tiny crowd, without vast resources on server hardware and locations. Due this all T2 related bulk download services, especially the ISO images - which caused about 1 TB of traffic per month (...) - where placed on a server I had lingering at the University of Applied Science (TFH Berlin) where I studied.

We always had a lot of problems with this nice little box, actually not our software (which was running the first T2 beta + security update, it even was still on DevFS until recently), but more with the FreeBSD based router departing it from the internet. This BSD box, however, was re-installed (make world or so I was told) more often than not and had more downtime than anyone would want. Additionally, like twice a year, someone "borrowed" the box's ethernet cable for maintenance (my guess) and just forgot to plug it back.

Ironically most of the downtime always happened after we released new major versions ...

Some weeks^months ago I was called to remove the box, because the university and some student board decided student servers, especially those generating TB of traffic, should no longer be hosted at that place (so I guess better look for another university to study than the TFH Berlin :-).

I toook some time to transfer hardware relocate the date, and now all T2 related downloads have a new home:

  http://dl.t2-project.org/

Hosted on our (ExactCODE GmbH - http://www.exactcode.de) server, and we'are working on getting the content mirrored on the usual open source centric mirroring "services", such as ibilio and others.

I hope this starts a new age of more reliable T2 payload distribution.

PS: The last days the SVN server got some maintenance care as well, and the Subversion repository is now served from a RAID0 mirror, yielding also a vast improvement of speed, especially for operations crawling to quite some delta data, such as svn log and svn blame.

Have a nice day and weekend,

  René Rebe
