Can you check with your custom built p4 images if installing
grub works for e.g. reiserfs instead of ext3? It might be just
an grub-incompatible inode size in the ext3 filesystems.
Please let me know if reiser3 works to further track this.

Greetings,

Hi again, this time i managed to sucessfully build a new t2-7.0

I try to describe what i did

GRUB now? and i choosed yes and pressed enter, same for
/boot/grub/menu.lst,ok and now i got on terminal following situation:

grub> root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs,partition type 0x83
grub>setup (hd0)
Checking if /boot/grub/stage1 exists..... no
Checking if /grub/stage1 exists .... no

Error 2: Bad file or directory type

I also tested yesterday pre-built installble binary image
t2-7.0-rc2-minimal-i486.iso->
i followed same steps as i described and it tooked for me 6-7 times to
try and then i finally got somehow gruB sucessfully installed

I think something is wrong with GRUB

thank you

Hi,i did some tests on my two computers
hopefully this helps fix this bug with Grub

here are details:

Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo X
Pentium 4 3,8GHz, 1,5GB Ram, 250GB Sata Hdd

tested with qemu:(if needed then i can try it to install it with cd also)

Grub installs fine with reiserfs on first time(tested two times)
screenshot:http://img26.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotsuccessfulins.png

Grub fail on ext3
screenshot:http://img26.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotext3failsonqe.png

Grub fail on ext2
screenshot:http://img26.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotext3failsonqe.png

tried also on old Compaq Deskpro Workstation 300 with my installcd
P4 Processor 1400Mhz
With reiserfs gcc fails to install: error:while installing GEM file
/mnt/source/7.0.0-generic-x86-pentium4/pkgs/gcc-4.2.4.tar.bz2
(usr/include/c++/4.2.4/javax/swing/tree/DefaultTreeCellEditor.h):Invalid
argument
Error while installing package gcc!
Grub fail on ext3 (gcc installs fine)
Grub fail on ext2 (gcc installs fine)

7.0 is indeed affected by this unfortunate upstream ext2/3 default 256
byte inode change and thus grub fails to read the resulting file-system.

In trunk it works due to the ext4 patch (just tested).

Will merge the ext4 changes int 7.0 and double check.
