I fail to see how over 40k revision in 7+ or whatever years "looks 
unmaintained".

The Lua Bash binding is an essential building block of T2's config and build 
system and the sole fact why that particular part was not touched in recent 
time is because it just works (tm).

I see absolutely zero reason why you have to fork the code away, instead we 
would be delighted to see substantial patches send in if there are possible 
improvements.
