ok,
I've been forced by various package circumstances to attempt to upgrade
my gcc to version 7.1.0!
I've spent weeks trying to stick to gcc6 but problems kept circling
around and eventually I was told to give gcc7 a go. Not only has a lot
of problems that were ocurring dissapeared, but a lot of warning
messages have dissapeared! I've even been able to remove a lot of
workarounds I had put in to get gcc6 to behave and allow me to build so
i'm sticking to gcc7. A major step of gcc7 I was told was the number of
regressions that happened to fix (what were actually) unbroken code-bits.
However gcc7 has had the GCC Java frontend and associated libjava
runtime library totally removed from within GCC.
So what do I replace this with? BLFS talks about OpenJava
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/stable/general/java.html and
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/stable/general/openjdk.html
with
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/stable/general/ojdk-conf.html
to configure it with.
However I don't know enough about either it or setting it up within T2's
Packageset and I did wonder if a full JDK was needed or if a JRE was all
that was required? I was wondering if someone who uses or has some
knowledge could advise or assist me (and eventually T2) on this matter.
thanks
scsijon
