Hi,

this may be due to naively substituting the optimisation setting in something 
like:

architecture/sparc64/parse-config

Though it looks like that should work I guess. So maybe it is not our gcc 
wrapper (what is it inserting btw. it is at the beginning of the log?), but 
glibc32.conf configure settings that make glibc’s own logic fail, ..?

I might not have build niagara in a decade, ... when the T1 or so was new I had 
a loaner form Sun for a month or two:
