I was especially fascinated by the SILK REELING AND TESTING MANUAL; although 
it deals primarily with the commercial venture rather than the cottage 
industry, it has a LOT of info on silk!  I never knew that it made so much 
difference how long the cocoons are baked, for instance.

has the best picture I can find so far of a home-type reeling system; the 
only real problem is, the entire page is in Thai (or whatever they call the 
language of Thailanders).  It looks like there's a croissure built into her 
reel; from the few descriptions I've been able to find, it is a pulley system 
to make the filament cross itself.

has a toy-sized version, which gives me some information about what I 
probably want to build myself... it looks a lot like a "Weasel" reel.  

I'll let you know what I end up doing... I wish I had a better camera, and 
I'd photojournal the whole process!
