Well, I never worked on an open-source project before, only on
"team-based" projects concerning programming. So I have no idea what
steps are needed and how such a project works.

Yes, if we really want to start a project like this I have to agree with
Deanna using Java as the platform for application development. Even with
some problems I technically have with Java in MS environment (e.g.
garbage handling, current versions) there are a lot more advantages than
disadvantages to use Java.

Ok - I worked with CVS some years ago. Unfortunately my Linux
installation was not running for month (after some hardware changes) and
I had no time to reinstall it up to now. As I unfortunately guess I will
not have in the future (sometimes I even do tablet weaving ;-) I think
of working in a Windows based environment (as I also already have a lot
of tools helping myself developing with Java). Does anyone know if there
is a Windows CVS version?

Oh yes, it might be the best idea to split the discussion asap for the
more technical related questions to some kind of new discussion list.
