Hi,

I just thought I'd pop in and mention a demo I did yesterday at my weaving
guild's gallery show and sale. We thought we'd haul along our spinning
wheels, tapestry looms and inkles (with TW of course) to demo on the lawn
while folks munched cookies and ogled our artwork. ;-> Well, I got roped
into dragging along my warp weighted loom and demonstrating that all day.

To say it was a hit would be an understatement. 8-] Lots of interest. I
wore a handwoven Viking kaftan over my clothes (instead of my usual garb),
and I was able to point out the type of weaving that was possible on a
wwloom. The loom itself was set up with a simple tabby. And to keep this
on topic, I can say that the warp was tablet woven and attached to the
loom. ;-]

One humorous element were the "rocks in socks." ;-> I had an odd
collection of rocks, as I'd determined earlier that I needed more weight
(I'm currently using 1 lb. of rocks to every 2" of warp -- seems about
right). I plan to make little sprang bags I can fill at will, but in the
meantime I'm making do with William's holey socks. Naturally I credit him.

This is really the shakedown for the loom which William built for me last
year but never got fully tested. We've hauled it around to a couple of
demos lately, and it's really incredibly portable and quick to set up and
take down. He built it with pegs so we just have to pull it apart, and it
folds up nicely into managable chunks. I'm quite pleased.

I'll have to take pictures...(just don't hold your breath for me to develop
them...). ;-) Organized I'm not.

Ester and Ercil came by to kibbitz and try it out, and they pronounced it
fit (which is what I'll be soon if I have to keep beating *up*...). ;->
We discussed refinements and planned improvements to the beta model.

All in all, it was a satisfying day. And I got to display my gallery
pieces (which included two tablet woven tapestries of Attic Greek Vases --
as seen at www.weavershand.com/gallery20a.html).

A fun fiber day. 8-]
