I think many Tibetan refugees are still weaving with tablets... I bought a bag, made from strips, recently at the Tibetan Centre in Delhi. Another subject urgently needing research is the possible survival of the weaving of velvet bands in Uzbekistan. The Bakhtyari are still weaving simple bands using 3/1 twill double- face, (combined with oblique stripes) but only for geometric shapes not images as previously. One sees these in some carpet shops in UK, e.g. 'Out of the Nomad's Tent', Edinburgh. peter collingwood, http://www.petercollingwood.co.uk Send private reply to peter collingwood <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop receiving tabletweaving (not tabletweaving-digest), send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: unsubscribe tabletweaving.
