Hi everyone, I have just read an object report on a tablet-woven manuscript wrapping band from Myanmar (Burma) in the collection of the Textile Museum, and thought I'd share a few details with you. It was woven in 1933 in an archaic form of the Burmese language. It measures 2 cm x 506 cm (about 3/4" x 200"). Most of the amazingly long text praises Buddha. I thought it was interesting that the text also includes the reason for weaving it: "In order to have a prosperous merit, and to pay off the debt of karma, we make these texts...we pray that in doing this good work, that we reach Nirvana..." If anyone has information about other historic inscription bands, I would appreciate learning the details.
