Dear Guido, >Autor: Cahlander, Adele >Titel: SLING BRAIDING OF THE ANDES >Autor: Cason, M., Cahlander, A. >Titel: THE ART OF BOLIVIAN HIGHLAND WEAVING: UNIQUE TRADITIONAL >TECHNIQUES FOR THE MODERN WEAVER I have both Cahlendar books and agree with Linda that ...Bolivian Highland Weaving... is a useful book. The Sling Braiding book is also useful for tablet weavers who are interested in structure. When I first learned sling braiding in an Ed Franquemont workshop, I thought they could possibly be woven with tablets. No so, but they are warp faced and usually twined, hence the patterns can be woven with tablets -- not identically, but very close. Gudrun Pollak has done some of this, and included one on her website recently. I suggest Noemi Speiser's book, The Manual of Braiding, which is probably still in print and available from her at Augustinergasse 3, CH-4051 BASEL Switzerland. This is an extremely thorough book on braid structure, with instructions as well. She does cover warp twining with a weft, which is after all tablet weaving. I find it very helpful not only in understanding braid structure, but when comparing braid structures and techniques with TW, I learn more about TW. Another publication that I find useful is an article in the Textile Museum Journal by Nancy Castle, "A Preuvian Crossed Warp Weave", vol. 4, no. 4, pp.61-70, 1977. This band weave looks very much like tablet weaving at first glance. I hope you were able to find Margarethe Hald's Brikvaevning, or Pauli Andersen's -- which covers somewhat Hald's TW material in her Olddansk Textiler.
