Canadian customs people are among the least laid back of any I have
encountered anywhere.

I once flew a light plane to Lethbridge to clear customs. It took at
least a half hour to convince the customs man that I was not taking
all sort of illegal 'gifts' to Canadian friends. He found it
unbelievable that I was a geology professor visiting a graduate
student doing field work west of Banff, and didn't even have any
friends in Canada.

Oh well, I'll just have to wear an old button I have with my name and
a picture of a shuttle on it.
