well, here is a small report from Germany, which - in economical terms -
seems to be the most affected country (but never forget flooding in
Austria and Czechia as well). Happily I have no personal damage as
Aachen is about 600 km away from the floodings, but I have a flat
acquired a few years ago in the region of Dresden. I did not hear
anything from there but as far as I know it is unaffected by the
flooding.

At my work, people to help the victims of the flooding are currently
searched. I work at Bayer and we have a factory in Bitterfeld (producing
Aspirin, a pharmaceutical which most of you might know), one of the
cities which was totally evacuated. I thought of helping there as well
but as my boss is on holiday, no one can give be "permission" to leave
work for manual help in the affected regions.

I am very happy that even outside Europe the flooding and its
consequences is mentioned - I would not have proposed that.
Nevertheless, "practical" help is very hard to organize from outside
Europe. There are a lot of initiatives here, e.g. a county near Dortmund
(Witten) is organizing a summer camp for children so their parents can
concentrate on re-building and cleaning their homes. A lot of things are
needed: furniture, clothes, toys (for the summer camp i.e.) etc. But the
only real "practical" thing I can image (as others might be hard to
organize) are contributions to the victims. If anyone here really wants
to help, I can find out and send the information as private mail on
organizations here in Germany that really help, the organizations where
every cent is really given to the victims (not spent for any
administration costs or sth similar).

Many regards to all
Guido
