Have done a little more experimenting with my warp, and it seems that when I have all the cords pushed tightly together, it is easier to see which thread should be graphed. The thread that is most obvious in this position is the one that is in the top hole and ready to move to the bottom with the next turn. I thought it would be most useful to spread the cords apart on my dowel/wefts, but that seems to make things more confusing to my eyes.
