Hm, that's *exactly* what I think when I see all the cool things available
in the UK!  FYI, I'm South African. :)

Look out for cats (and probably babies, too).  I think one of the most
confusing things about tabletweaving is understanding threading and what S/Z
means.  If you've got that sorted out then all you need do is make sure all
the colours are in the right holes, and you're pretty well set.

Patternwise there are a number of websites you could look at.  Easiest is to
start with Weavershand (weavershand.com), you can find a bunch of useful
links there.  Well, ok, I'm going to shamelessly plug my own site as well
