I would like to invite you to have a look at the new page in my Tablet Weaving Gallery which I have created for my student, Andrew Louie. Andrew is a developmentally-disabled man in his mid-40s, who loves weaving and has been taking lessons from me since July. He is now able to make a continuous warp with very little help, and can also weave bookmarks without help as long as all of the tablets are turned continuously in the same direction.
He wants to make things to sell, so we have created a card for mounting the bookmarks, and last week he has took a dozen of them to a place in Portland called Inclusion, which serves the developmentally-disabled and has a small space to sell artwork.
I would love to hear from anyone who has had experience teaching weaving to developmentally-disabled adults.
On this Thanksgiving Eve, when I'm thinking of all the things I'm grateful for, I feel very thankful to have Andrew as my student. It has been a wonderful experience working with him.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, Linda
