Hello tablet weavers,

A friend recently used the word "nap" in reference to a tablet woven band. I don't think that's the right word for this band (it would be correct for a velvet band), but it made me think about it.

This band has all tablets threaded in the same direction. The pattern is a continuous meander design, and there is in an interesting visual and textural effect which is a result of some rather large triangular and quadrilateral areas of warp twining surrounded by the double-faced weave.

What is the correct word or phrase for this?

This also led me to think about the difference in light reflection depending on the direction of twist in the warp-twined cords. Would the same word or phrase apply? I think when the band is entirely warp-twined, we have called this "warp-twined patterning".

Thanks for your thoughts.
Take care,
Linda
