Sponsored by TWIST - Tablet Weavers International Studies & Techniques

yes, tablet weaving has a future... TW does three
thingss: 1) it teaches weaving skills to those who
would not normally think of using a "big" loom. 2) it
sparks intrest to explore more fiber arts. 3) it
teaches "respect" for those who weave and or the final
woven produt.

Besides TW being intresting, and useful for straps and
such, It alows a person with limited resources and
space to learn weaving techniches. Lets face it.. not
everyone can aford a floor loom that starts at $300+
used, but most people can afford a $2 deck of playing
cards and some Walmart cotten crottet thread.

Also, in an afternoon (or quicker), a person can
concive a design, warp threads into cards, and weave
several inches of cloth,.. intstand gratification.
While learning all kinds of usefull things about warp,
and weft and even tension and amount of time to make
the cloth they are wearing.

(yes backstrap weaving straps is just as cheap and
quick.. but to a raw beginer, tying up heddles may
seem too hard and complicated, thus out of reach)

so.. to those who are "demonstating" weaving at
craft-fairs, state fairs and other venues.. please
have a couple "unuall" tablet woven bands around.. and
one in progress.. to answer the question of "how did
you do that" and "how can I try weaving"

and.. to those teaching TW in the grade schools and
high schools.. THANK YOU!. it teaches kids that "Art"
is not limited to those who are "talented" (Ie those
who can naturally draw well)
