Sponsored by TWIST - Tablet Weavers International Studies & Techniques

Hello folks,

even though I am also not a new subscriber I would also like to introduce
myself, espc. to new members that joined the list the last 2-3 years.

I have been tablet weaving for about 6 years now. I learnt it from my wife
who herself learnt it out of a German tablet weaving book. Nevertheless my
interests changed a little during the last years, our interests now are
medieval textiles, espc. from the Merowingean and Karolingean period and
region. As we live in Aachen (city of coronation of Charlesmagne) this I
think is quite natural. On the other hand out handicraft interests had also
been expanded: My wife always did hand spinning, since last year we got a
hand loom where she weaves cloth for our own textiles – last project was an
Iron-age textile (Thorsberg gown). Since two years now we are working on the
whole cloth creation process: We buy sheared wool directly on a wool market
in spring, wash it, card it, spinn it, dye it, weave it and finally produce
cloth and textiles. So tablet weaving is only one part of our activities.

My latest project were the completion of Hallstatt II and a 3/1 twill
Bakhtiyari band inspired by the motifs of the Bakhtiyari band on Linda
Hendricksons website. Unfortunately no pictures are available up to now.

Currently I am working on Hallstatt III and a diagonal motif band I am
making as an edging for a friends tunic. She represents a scribe and will
produce 12 goatskin parchments with tablet weaving instructions, dying
recipies and descriptions of dyestuffs for us in exchange. From time to time
I am working on my long-dated projects (Snartemo V, Hochdorf 3/1 twill and
others shown on http://www.steinmaus.de/Mittelalter/weben/aktuell/index.html
). In parallel we are busy with preparing some bands for a tablet weaving
exhibition in Krefeld next year.

Many of my tablet weaving projects as well as instructional pages and
pictures from our activities can be found on my website, unfortunately most
in German.

Now we are full of expectation looking forward to meet a lot of tablet
weaving friends in the South German tablet weavers meeting in the Black
Forest from Nov. 10th till 13th.

Guido
