Hello everyone,
I received an interesting e-mail from a
passementerie company in Egypt today and wondered
if anyone on this list could help, or would know
someone who could. Sadly, I don't have the
computer skills they're looking for. I've copied it below.
Wishing you all a peaceful 2006,
Linda
We are a small specialised passementerie weaving
company, owned by a British couple and located in Cairo, Egypt.
Until recently we wove exclusively on
hand-operated passementerie looms (which we
constructed ourselves), but lately we were urged
by our regular clients to start offering custom
jacquard tapes in small order quantities.
Consequently we acquired a hand-operated but
electronically controlled jacquard loom from AVL
Looms
(<http://www.avlusa.com/>http://www.avlusa.com).
It is a lovely small loom and came with CAD/CAM
software JacqPoint and Arah Weave. But we have
been unable so far to produce even an inch of product.
Our problem is that we live in a country where
there are great weavers, and there are great
computer programmers but we failed totally to
find a person that combines both skills. We can
warp and weave, we can design on the computer
but we cant get the computer to talk to the
loom! I feel sure that to an experienced
jacquard weaver and teacher, the solution will
be quick and simple, and we just need someone to
spend a few days with us to get us up and running.
Do you believe that you could help us, and
would you be interested in visiting Egypt? We
would be massively grateful, and please do let
us know what your costs to us would be if you felt you would like to come
An idea of what we do can be seen at our website
<http://www.passmenterie.org/>http://www.passmenterie.org
. I am certain also that if you came you would
be fascinated to witness the making of
passementerie the old fashioned way, entirely by
hand, including the dyeing and spinning phases.
With kind regards
Michael and Sevinch Deman
